Site Remediation Works – Structural Steel Rehabilitation

Project Details

Olympic Dam
BHP – Olympic Dam

Project Overview

RJ Engineering delivered structural remediation and steel rehabilitation works across multiple high-risk operational areas within BHP Olympic Dam, including the Tails Deslime Area, Tails Leach Tank 4 Platform, and A-B Train South Stair Stringer locations.

These areas had experienced long-term exposure to highly corrosive process environments, resulting in advanced corrosion and coating breakdown, section loss in structural members, deterioration of floor grating and handrails, damage to stair stringers and platform framing, and reduced structural integrity of load-bearing components.

The works were executed under BHP Asset Integrity Surface Engineering packages (AIS-067, AIS-068, AIS-073), requiring strict compliance with BHP Engineering Standards, Australian Standards, and site-specific safety and environmental controls — restoring structural integrity to assets that had been quietly degrading under sustained chemical exposure.
