EW Reagent Dosing Optimisation Project
Project Details
- Location:
Olympic Dam – Electrowinning Circuit (EW1 & EW2)
- Client:
BHP – Olympic Dam
Project Overview
RJ Engineering delivered the Structural and Mechanical scope for the EW Reagent Dosing Optimisation Project within the operational Electrowinning circuit at Olympic Dam. The project involved installation of dedicated PAM dosing lines to EW1, EW2 and EW3, segregation of the shared EW1/EW2 electrolyte header, and integration of new dosing pumps, flowmeters and control systems.
Early works included detailed site measure and verification of existing infrastructure, followed by offsite fabrication of dosing skids, pipe spools and structural supports at our workshop facilities. This prefabrication strategy significantly reduced shutdown duration and site congestion. Final installation and brownfield tie-ins were executed during the scheduled September 2025 outage, requiring disciplined SIMOPS management within active battery limits including the EW feedlines and MCC 4800MC0012 at Substation 4800SS0003.
Delivered in accordance with BHP Engineering Standards and applicable Australian Standards, the upgrade improved isolation compliance, enabled section-specific reagent control, and enhanced cathode quality and reagent efficiency.
