Project Overview
RJ Engineering was engaged to deliver the Structural and Mechanical Piping (SMP) package for the EP Liquor Recirculation Project within the Tailings Disposal Area at Olympic Dam. The scope included installation of corrosion-resistant piping systems, structural steel works, and brownfield tie-ins to live EPRL and Uranium Raffinate infrastructure to enable recirculation of up to 2 ML/day of Evaporation Pond liquor.
Executed within a high-risk operational environment, the works required advanced planning, rigorous permit-to-work compliance, and disciplined SIMOPS coordination across multiple contractors. Civil and electrical scopes were delivered by others, with RJ Engineering providing structured interface management to maintain programme alignment and operational continuity. All works were delivered in accordance with BHP Engineering Standards, site-specific technical specifications, and applicable Australian Standards, including structural steel fabrication and erection requirements.
The project was completed with zero disruption to plant operations — a result that speaks directly to the value of disciplined SIMOPS coordination when multiple contractors are working interdependent scopes inside a live processing circuit.
